Rox came to us through tragic circumstances. Shortly after she and her three littermates were born, their dam Uka died. We handreared the litter in zombie-like fashion - our beloved Ukie Pooks' loss was unbearable and we would have gladly swapped the pups for her to come back to us - but there were the four tiny mites determined to survive and their older half-sister Tak (Brushbow Ipiutak) in the whelping box providing all the cuddling and cleaning they needed.
Not intending to keep from this litter - our then small home full enough with two children, two dogs and the budgie - one of the bitch pups was always staring back at us whenever we peeped into the whelping box. Not bothered by what her littermates were up to, this banded black and white irish marked demanded our attention at all hours, and then developed the same bi eyes as her mother, and that was it, she stayed.
Rox proved to be exceptional as a pet, command leader, show dog and brood bitch.
A multiple Best of Breed and CC winner in the showring, our proudest win was under Natalie Norris at The Siberian Husky Club of GB's Breed Match when Rox was Best In Match from a large entry of 55. Natalie also highly praised Roxy's two 5 month old offspring who were not quite old enough to compete that day.
The quality of Roxanne's head was second to none. Even when she was fast asleep she looked beautiful. Her excellent black skin pigment and clearness of her black coat (unusual for a black with a red parent) highlighted her expression to perfection. Whilst many of her descendants also had/have very good heads, none have quite matched the doyenne for perfection.
Bred three times, Rox gave us command leaders for the team each time. She casually established herself as pack leader and showed us a thing or two about pack management - pups were put in their place at an early age and retained their respect for her right into old age.
Date of Birth: 15.2.81. Whilst in effect an outcross breeding, the lines were of similar type - the older Monadnock pedigree blending nicely with those of the Canadian imports Wapahkwa's Avik and Tovar's Sarita. |
